here and then (Sherry, our helpful Chinese guide assures us that
"babies here run rather hot" and that letting her sweat it all out
would take care of things).
Amy thinks that Ally came to us with some bronchial condition which
then was aggravated into "secondary infection". Of course, things are
exacerbated by the turmoil surrounding Ally stepping into a new
lifestyle, including, to start with, new foods, adjustment to her new
family, constant motion and bus trips to various offices so far (NOT
today though, fortunately).
I am eventually sent out to find a pharmacy to procure some needed
additional medical supplies - thermometer, Baby Tylenol - to get ready
to administer some fever medication to Ally: we have elected not to
try to get her in touch with a doctor, since, as Sherry assured us,
this would require a hospital visit, with Ally likely ending up being
retained there! We are also VERY mindful of the fact that the current
H1M1 fear here (whipped into a quasi frenzy by the media!) could make
such hospital intervention result in possibly longer, quarantine-like
separation of Ally from us!
Amy does have a supply of antibiotics for just such a situation anyway
and plans to soon administer some to Ally in case things do not
improve. Ally has been exhibiting spikes of high fever (even I could
feel it), and then returns to her normal active, funny self for a
while. Several phone conversations take place during the day between
Amy/Tristan and Jennifer to channel proper medical advice from the
family doctor as to the right steps to take to start delivering on
hand antibiotics to Ally.
Thank God for Tristan and Jennifer's cool demeanor in facing all this:
Amy is a little more frantic about it all, as a concerned, worried Mom
(Ma ma) and of course a nurse!
We are all scheduled to go about town tomorrow July 15 with Sherry in
a rented van, and especially to visit older, traditional areas of
Beijing called "hutong" - "narrow streets". Possibly do some shopping
as well. We have two days left in Beijing if all goes well with
obtaining Ally's passport.
